Age Group: Ideal for Young Children
Ball Size: 3 or 4
Objective:
This drill builds upon the basic Toe Taps exercise by adding a component of moving the ball between feet. It enhances coordination and ball control, teaching children to manage the ball with slight movements.
Instructions:
- Starting Position: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, with the ball in front of you.
- Execution: Start with a toe tap on the ball with your right foot. Instead of lifting the foot completely off, gently roll the ball towards your left foot.
- Alternate Feet: As the ball reaches your left foot, perform a toe tap and roll the ball back to the right foot.
- Control: Focus on gentle, controlled movements. The ball should move only a small distance between the feet.
- Rhythm: Establish a steady rhythm, ensuring that each movement is deliberate and controlled.
Repetitions and Sets:
Begin with 20 toe taps with movement, followed by a short break. Aim to complete 3 sets. Increase the number of repetitions and sets as the skill improves.
Equipment Needed:
- A soccer ball (size 3 or 4).
- A flat, safe area for practice.
Safety Tips:
- Ensure the practice space is clear of any obstacles or hazards.
- Wearing sports shoes can help in maintaining grip and balance.
Progress Tracking:
Parents can monitor their child’s control and rhythm. The movement between feet should become smoother and more controlled over time.
Challenge:
Once the child is comfortable with the basic motion, encourage them to increase the speed of the ball movement while maintaining control.
Fun Tip:
Make the drill a game by challenging the child to count how many successful taps with movement they can do in a row without losing control of the ball.
