Elastico Drill

Age Group: Suitable for Young Children
Practice Area: 3-4 meters
Ball Size: 3 or 4

Objective:
The Elastico drill is aimed at teaching young players the Elastico move, a skillful feint that involves a quick change of direction with the ball. This move enhances agility, ball control, and the ability to deceive opponents.

Instructions:

  1. Setup: Mark a 3-4 meter area for the drill.
  2. Starting Position: Place the ball stationary in front of you.
  3. Step 1: Practice the move initially with your dominant foot for better control and quicker mastery.
  4. Step 2: Push the ball away from you with the outside of your stronger foot. Keep your foot in contact with the ball to maintain control.
  5. Step 3: As you push the ball, simultaneously sell the feint with your body by transferring your weight and dropping your shoulder in the direction of the ball movement.
  6. Step 4: Quickly wrap the inside of your foot around the ball, bringing it back towards you in a swift motion. This is the most challenging part and should be done at a slow pace initially.
  7. Step 5: After bringing the ball back, push it past the imaginary defender to the other side, allowing you to accelerate past them.

Repetitions and Sets:
Perform this drill for 25 repetitions, focusing on smoothness and control. Complete 5 sets with short breaks in between.

Equipment Needed:

  • A soccer ball (size 3 or 4).
  • A flat, open area suitable for the exercise.

Safety Tips:

  • Ensure the practice area is clear of obstacles.
  • Wear appropriate sports footwear for safety and better performance.

Progress Tracking:
Monitor the player’s improvement in ball control, feint execution, and the fluidity of the entire movement. As the player becomes more comfortable, increase the speed of the move.

Challenge:
Encourage players to practice the Elastico move with both feet, starting with the dominant foot and then the weaker foot.

Fun Tip:
Incorporate a fun element by setting up a mini obstacle or a mock defender to practice the move in a more game-like scenario.
