Outside-Outside Drill

Age Group: Suitable for Young Children
Practice Area: 3-4 meters
Ball Size: 3 or 4

Objective:
The Outside-Outside drill is designed to enhance lateral ball control and agility. By exclusively using the outside of both feet, this drill helps young players develop a more dynamic range of movement and ball handling skills.

Instructions:

  1. Setup: Mark a 3-4 meter area to define the practice space.
  2. Starting Position: Stand with the ball at your feet.
  3. Execution: Begin by using the outside of one foot to move the ball to the side. Then, quickly switch to the outside of the other foot to move the ball to the opposite side. Continue this side-to-side movement pattern, using only the outsides of your feet.
  4. Body Position: Focus on bending your knees more than usual and keeping a lower stance. This helps in improving balance and control during the drill.
  5. Rhythm and Control: The movement should be fluid and rhythmic. Keep the ball close and under control, moving it briskly from one foot to the other.

Repetitions and Sets:
Complete 30 repetitions of the side-to-side movement, using both feet. Aim for 5 sets with short breaks in between.

Equipment Needed:

  • A soccer ball (size 3 or 4).
  • A flat, open space suitable for the drill.

Safety Tips:

  • Ensure the area is free from hazards.
  • Wear appropriate sports shoes to ensure stability and safety.

Progress Tracking:
Parents should observe the player’s ability to maintain control of the ball while keeping a low, balanced stance. The fluidity and speed of the ball movement should improve with practice.

Challenge:
As the player becomes more comfortable with the drill, encourage them to increase the pace of the ball movement while maintaining a low stance and good control.
